Young Life involves middle-school interest

Penn-Trafford’s Young Life, a high-school group working to grow their faith in Jesus, held a Wyldlife Club evening in early December to welcome middle schoolers.

“Wyldlife was a huge success. The middle schoolers had a lot of fun,” member of Younglife and P-T senior Brandon Coakley said. “They were able to laugh and eat pizza, then Peter gave a beautiful message about Jesus knowing us by name.”

Peter Leonetti, the adult area director, helps guide the high schoolers along their journey. Each week, the Young Life group meets for a “Campaigners” Bible Study every Tuesday at a member’s house. Attendance averages 25-30 people each week, but has reached 50, according to Coakley.

“The leaders are relatable because most of them are in college or have recently graduated so we can go to them with questions about high school,” Coakley said.”They are all genuine people who are willing to go out of their way to develop a friendship with their students.”

While Young Life is mainly for high schoolers in the P-T area, Wyldlife is a branch that focuses mainly on middle schoolers. Both groups are focused on spreading Christianity throughout the youth.

“Young Life does not associate with a certain denomination. Anyone whether they believe or just want to hang out are welcome to come,” Coakley said. “The ultimate goal is to plug new believers into a church that they feel welcome and comfortable in.”

Coakley said the group helped his personal relationship with Jesus along with helping to increase community.

“Young Life has benefitted me by teaching me to not be afraid to speak to God. My friendships have also become stronger and more real with the people involved,” Coakley said.

No registration is required for highschoolers to attend. The group is not a school-affiliated club. More information can be found by visiting the Young Life website or through the P-T Young Life Instagram.
