Netflix says goodbye to fan favorite movies

Layla Welsch, Staff Writer

Every month Netflix adds new movies and takes down ones that have been available for a long time.

Fans usually do not become too upset when they see movies go since these movies are the ones not watched as frequently nor given high ratings. Fans also tend to appreciate the new movies coming because they are usually movies that are frequently searched for or requested.

Netflix removes movies when the licensing deal with that content provider ends. Content providers have the ability to renew the license and have their content remain on Netflix longer.

If viewers happen to see certain content all the time on Netflix, it might mean that the agreement was done for a longer duration or the agreement was renewed.

When adding movies or shows Netflix does not think of quantity but instead quality content that they think people will watch and love. The sooner the better when it comes to signing the licensing deals.

However, this month fans are not happy with what is leaving or coming.

Freshman Sam Painter said, “I don’t really recognize any of the movies that are being added. Nothing that I know really stands out to me,but I am kind of sad that the “Spongebob Movie” is leaving. I really love that movie.”

Other students are not only sad they do not recognize a lot of movies coming to Netflix, but they are upset some of the more popular ones are leaving.

“I love “Legally Blonde”, I can’t believe that it is leaving. I used to watch that all the time. I also used to watch “Powerpuff Girls”. That show was my jam. I’m sad that show is leaving,” sophomore Stephanie O’Donnell said.

Some other movies and shows that are leaving include “Courage the Cowardly Dog”, “The Addams Family”, “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”, and “Escape To Witch Mountain”, are just a few.

“Of course I’ll still watch Netflix!” O’Donnell laughed. “I watch too many TV shows on there to stop now.”

Some content that is being added would be: “Boyhood,” “Paddington”, “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life”, “Stephen King’s Thinner”, and “The Jungle Book”.

If watchers aren’t happy with what is leaving or coming to Netflix this month, December is a new month for new movies and TV shows.
