Students seek social media for homecoming prep

In past years, the homecoming dance has been a highly anticipated event among Penn-Trafford students. There is always a big turnout, which leaves girls panicked, wondering if someone else has the same dress as they do.

In an attempt to ease the process of finding a unique style, junior Alayna Moorhead created an Instagram account, @pthomecoming2018, to ensure that various looks appear at the dance.

Moorhead created the account on Aug. 15 with inspiration from her job at MB Bride.

¨We keep a registry of schools [at MB Bride] to prevent girls from having the same dress from their particular school. Although this is helpful, it’s not consistent with other stores in the area.  I thought having an account would make it easier for girls who would like to be unique at homecoming this year,¨ Moorhead said.

The account has become popular among P-T students, with 183 followers and counting.

Students purchase tickets to the homecoming dance during their lunch periods.

¨I attempted to make it popular by following as many girls I know from Penn-Trafford,¨ Moorhead said.

According to Moorhead, the feedback regarding this account has been overwhelmingly appreciative. She said that she plans to continue the account for prom, as well into next year.

According to Student Union teacher sponsor, Stephanie Martini, the dance will be held in the gymnasium, like last year, due to the ¨huge turnout¨ in the past.

Martini added that there will be a picture wall and the music will be done by DJ TJ, like last year.

Tickets for the homecoming dance will be available for purchase from Monday, Sep. 24 to Wednesday, Oct. 3. Anyone on the restricted list will not be able to purchase a ticket. The dance will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6 starting at 7 p.m.
