Warrior staff explores and reviews the most popular cafeteria foods

Hordes of students flock into the cafeteria each day to eat lunch. Whether they get a big meal or just a drink, there are certain foods offered by the school that students run to get.

Warrior editors Katie Reese and Hayden Inman decided that they would test these foods. Foods like the combo meal, fries, pizza and more are always quick to be gone: But are they worth the hype?

Each day, both Reese and Inman were to try a popular item from the cafeteria, give it a rating and then give it an overall review. They did this for a week. What do they think about the most hyped foods of Penn-Trafford High School?

Reese: After asking multiple people what I should try from the cafeteria, pizza was one of the top recommendations I got. Now, I amm not one to get the school pizza, so after four years of attending this school, I finally tried it.

     And, it was not bad!

The pizza, along with the crust, was soft. This was not unbearable but it also is not great. The sauce was sweet, but the cheese did have a lot of flavor. Overall it was very filling due to its large size.

The fries are something every student, including me, has tried at least once in their high school career: and for good reason. While they have seen multiple changes over the past few years, the current fries are a hit.

They are relatively thin, meaning that some bites will give you the perfect crunch. Now, sometimes they are too crunchy, but some people love that! The salt is also a hit or miss. It is difficult to find a cup of fries that has a good amount of salt, with most cups having either way too much or none at all.

One of the best things I tried on the menu was the panini. Waiting in line can take a while, so mobile ordering is your best bet in order to get a panini fast.

The paninis are an amazing offer from the school. Each one packs a big punch of flavor and tastes even better than most of the sandwich shops around town.

Personally, I ordered regular bread with turkey, cheese, lettuce, and ranch, but there are countless other options to choose from. The sandwich is fully customizable and is set up like a subway, while having a lot of similar options.

Each sandwich is perfectly toasted, warming everything up and giving it a slight crunch. To top it all off, the sandwich is incredibly large and fills you up. The only downside is that the side has to be chips, unlike previous years.

Inman: I am not the biggest pizza fan. I believe there is too much grease and the cheese and pepperoni is overpowering, but the school pizza was recommended to me by numerous students, so I gave it a try.

     Actually, I loved it.

There was not a lot of grease – just enough to give it that fatty flavor.

The crust was soft, so when I picked it up it would bend over. The sauce was not overpowering like most pizzas, so I could actually taste the toppings.

The cheese was very stringy and flavorful which I loved, and it filled me right up due to its large size.

Crinkle fries come with the main course meals, and I think that is the main reason I enjoyed this one the most.

Another day, I tried the chicken sandwich with a side of fries, and all I can say about the sandwich is that it is okay. It is pretty dry, but that can be fixed with a sauce like ranch or barbecue.

The fries were so delicious with a side of ranch to go with them. They were just the right amount of salty so I did no’t cringe, but there was also lots of flavor.

Overall, I believe the fries were better than the pizza itself.

After much recommendation I finally tried the walking taco; however, I did not like it very much.

After five minutes of eating, the chips were already soggy which brought my experience way down. On top of that the lettuce and onions were crunchy, which did not help with the sogginess.

The meat was just not good and the cheese barely added any flavor at all to the meal.

Overall, it was a disappointing experience. Sorry to those who are walking taco fans.

Lastly, I tried the Warrior Chicken Bowl, and I believe it was the best thing I had tried by far.

The Creaminess of the mashed potatoes and gravy mix really well together with the crunchiness of the chicken breading. The Sweetness of the corn really brought a burst of flavor to my mouth.

Overall it was great and I recommend getting it every time it is available.
